Roughly 50 cars have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a release.
Officers report they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.
The fluid had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.
Officers then found many other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials say initial examinations show the fluid was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; authorities are currently not aware of any harm in association with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities said they were trying "to solve the case" and have asked to the public for tips.
An important political figure commented the attack made him speechless and had to be addressed quickly.
"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on online, referring to the death of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
