Heartbreaking News on Cargo Plane Crash: Fatalities Climbs to 13

The number of fatalities resulting from the freight aircraft which caught fire and crashed has reached 13, as confirmed by latest statements.

Official's Remarks

Traveling to the Union’s candlelight gathering, I received word of a 13th person that passed away as a consequence of the aircraft accident,” expressed the city mayor in a public communication. “My prayers is with the loved ones, friends and co-workers of all who were lost in this week’s calamity. We will endure this collectively.”

Deceased Confirmed

A release from the company named the flight crew aboard the aircraft as Captain Richard Wartenberg, Co-pilot Lee Truitt, and Relief Captain Dana Diamond.

“Our sympathies are extended to each UPSer who has been affected and everyone in our community community – supporting you and making sure you obtain the attention and assistance you need is our priority,” the company’s statement stated.

Investigation Findings

Federal authorities announced that the jet’s port side wing caught fire and an engine fell off shortly after liftoff from the aviation hub, causing the jet to plummet and explode into a blaze.

The safety agency stated it is examining the plane’s service record, that was in Texas for repairs a period ahead of the accident.

Aviation records indicated the jet was on the tarmac in San Antonio, Texas from 3 September to mid-October.

“We are aware that this plane was located in San Antonio,” remarked an NTSB member on later, without a exact period. “We will examine all elements of service that was done, even the San Antonio time, all the way to the day of the journey.”

Retrieval of Vital Items

The cockpit voice recorder and information unit were retrieved, and the motor was located on the airfield.

The units – referred to as flight recorders – were designed to withstand crash impacts and intense heat from infernos, and they looked to be intact when found within the remains. Investigators will reviewing recordings from the black boxes.

Aircraft’s last data recordings indicated an height of 475 ft and a rate of 210 miles per hour prior to the accident.

Service Record

Based on aviation authority records dated that date, a fissure on a component within the tank area needed repairs.

Singapore-based ST Engineering, which said it supplies aircraft servicing for the company’s jet and runs a repair facility in San Antonio, refused to comment, but said it would assist completely when investigators contacted it.

Services Continue

In the meantime, the hub operations continued Wednesday night with its overnight also known as evening operation, representative the company official confirmed. All three landing strips at the airport were also open again.

The UPS package handling facility in the city is the organization’s largest. The center hires more than 20,000 people in the locality, handles numerous flights each day and sorts over 400,000 items per hour.

Community Reaction

A candlelight vigil was held on the late afternoon of that date by the area Teamsters Union, which represents staff at the airfield, the firm’s biggest air cargo hub.

Teamsters Local 89, which stands for UPS workers, commenced the memorial with a quiet tribute at 5.14pm, the approximate time of the crash before.

“This event was so abrupt, so unforeseen,” the mayor addressed the assembly of attendees. “No one had a chance to bid farewell to any of those who we have mourned.”
